As a crochet pattern designer, I've become increasingly familiar with my own personal style and way of organizing ideas and thoughts. When an idea pops into my head, I like to immediately jot it down in a note on my phone - that way, I don't forget about it later. Then, when I'm ready to move on to my next design and need some ideas, I can head straight to my handy-dandy note filled with ideas! Some of those ideas result in pattern designs, and some of those ideas never leave the note phase.
I’ve also noticed one specific habit I've formed to keep my tasks organized before releasing my pattern. You know how it can get - finishing pattern edits, editing video tutorials, communicating with your tech editor, planning the testing process, etc. When you're getting close to the release date, there are A LOT of tasks needing to get checked off in order to prepare for a successful launch!
For most of my designs, I would usually create a checklist on my phone to keep track of each step I needed to take, and honestly, just to keep my thoughts organized so I don't miss anything. Being a full time mom means there is A LOT on my to-do list every day, and sometimes during pattern release weeks my thoughts can get a bit jumbled.
But really, a boring checklist on my phone notes is not very pretty or motivating. So as I continued to jot down every step I needed to take for that pattern release, I realized what a FUN idea it would be to put together a simple, printable checklist to stay on top of - including all of those final steps to get your pattern release-ready! There’s just something about picking up your favorite pen and checking that next task off of your to-do list.
On this checklist, you’ll find 33 tasks separated into four different sections to stay organized: the writing/editing phase, testing process, launch phase, and marketing/recognitions. I also included an extra space under each section to include any personalized tasks you’d like to add yourself! I hope you enjoy!
