Hello again, friends!

In this post I’ll be sharing some adorable modifications to my Amka Snow Doll Crochet Pattern.

If you don’t have my original Amka Doll Pattern already, you can find and purchase it right here in my shop on Etsy!

To keep track of this post, make sure you pin the image below to save for later!

First and foremost, I want to thank my dear friend Cristina, a fellow crocheter and business owner of CC Handmade Hugs

Earlier this year, Cristina began working on a Pocket Princess collection for her customers by modifying the Amka Snow Doll pattern to have all sorts of adorable Princess accessories and hairstyles! I was literally swooning every time she shared another beautiful princess.

Her collection was so stinkin’ adorable, I couldn’t help but reach out to see if she would be willing to share how she made some of the modifications for us!

Cristina was SO generous and willing to share the pattern notes for the modifications she made, and I’m seriously stoked to be able to include them, along with a dress modification myself, right in this post!

Before you get started, make sure you go check out Cristina’s shop and Instagram! She has some adorable patterns and also offers beautiful finished items to a loyal customer base. You can find her shop here on Etsy, or connect with her on Instagram!

Okay, so let’s get started talking about the modifications.

There will be 2 main hairstyle modifications, and 3 fun accessories to add some beauty and versatility to your doll!

At the end of this post you’ll be able to make your own sweet princess doll with a unique hairstyle and all the cute crocheted removable dresses to go with her.

Be sure to check out the full video tutorial on making the removable dress here! Written instructions are included in this blog post, but you’ll definitely want to check out the video tutorial if you have a more visual learning style. You can watch the tutorial right here!

First, we’re going to start with all the details! A total list of abbreviations found throughout all of the modifications will be listed first. Before each modification section, you will find a list of the specific materials needed to make that mod. I’ll also be sure to include some of my favorite yarns to use in these sections!

Once again, this is a modification of my Amka Snow Doll Pattern, not the entire doll pattern. Be sure to check out the pattern in my shop first to fit these modifications!

Happy crocheting, friends!

Removable Dress

Important Note: It’s helpful to try on your doll’s dress as you go, making sure it fits correctly. If your dress is too big, you may need to go down a size for the hair tie you’re using. It should fit comfortably underneath the arms of your doll.

Materials:

  • Bernat Velvet, bulky size 5 yarn  [100% polyester; 60 yds]

  • Hook size 5.00mm

  • 2mm hair tie

  • Tapestry needle

  • Scissors

Pattern (check out the full 20 minute video tutorial here!):

Ch 11

Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 9 ch(s), now, pick up your hair tie, and inserting your hook from front to back, work 2 sc around hair tie, do NOT ch 1, turn. (12 sc)

Row 2: sk first 2 sc worked around your hair tie, sc in next st and each st across, ch 1 (does NOT count as a st), turn. (10 sc)

Row 3: sc in each st across, work 2 sc around ponytail ring, turn. (12 sc)

Rows 4-32: rep rows 2 & 3. You should finish row 32 at the bottom edge of the dress. If you finish at the top where the hair tie is, you either made too many rows or not enough. Be sure to count your stitches and rows to ensure your count is staying on track.

Place the edges of row 1 and row 32 together, work 10 sl sts across edges all the way up to the hair tie to join. Fasten off. Tie beginning and ending tails together to secure. Weave in ends.

Turn dress right side out with the seam on the inside. It’s now ready to try on!

Dress Ruffle:

Materials:

  • Bernat Velvet (or same yarn used for dress)

  • Hook size 5.00mm

With the top of your dress pointing down and the right side facing out, join your ruffle color with a sl st to the edge st of any row.

Rnd 1: *sc 3 in first st, sl st in next st* rep from *to* all the way around the bottom of the dress. (16 sc 3 clusters, 16 sl sts).
