Hi there friends!
After seeing so many interested in my Not-So-Knit Pumpkin pattern, I really wanted to dive in and create some variety with it to share!
While I was at my local Joann the other day I came across the most beautiful selection of Lion Brand Hue & Me yarns! Its a size 5 bulky weight yarn and comes in the most gorgeous, rustic, colors.
I really wanted to use it for a crocheted pumpkin, but I hadnβt tried it with my own pumpkin pattern yet. So I used the afternoon to test out the yarn and see which hook size would be best!
If you havenβt see my Not-So-Knit Pumpkin pattern yet, itβs a FREE crochet pattern I have right here on my blog!
The best part is, all the instructions are the same for the chunky version, you just use a different yarn and hook size.
So after reading the details in this post, make sure you head over to the pattern post at the link above to make one!
As youβll soon find out, once you check out the patternβ¦it uses a stitch that isnβt very common for typical projects like this, called the Waistcoat Stitch. It can be a tricky stitch, which is probably why.
So, I decided to create a quick and simple tutorial to make learning this stitch a lot easier on you. The tutorial shows you how to work this stitch using worsted weight yarn, however, if you follow all the same tips and techniques it should easily work for other weights of yarn.
Okay, letβs get to the point! How did I make a chunkier pumpkin?!
For one, I ended up grabbing a few of those skeins of the Hue & Me yarn I spotted. I had actually never worked with it before, but it was so gorgeous I couldnβt help picking out a couple of colors.
Next, I had to choose what hook size I thought would work best. I chose a 6.00mm at first, but the stitches were coming out too tight still, making them harder to work the stitch easily. So I went up to a 7.00mm and it was PERFECT!
Thatβs it, friends!
If you follow the original Not-So-Knit Pumpkin pattern instructions as far as stitch and row counts goβ¦then just use these materials below and youβll have created a beautiful chunkier version of this crocheted pumpkin.
Lion Brand Hue & Me yarn (color Toast for the stem) (80% acrylic, 20% wool; approx. 5 yds)
Finished size: 6β wide x 4β tall.
Have fun creating a new bunch of chunky pumpkins!
