Can you believe Christmas is a little over one month away?!

This season has been a really great one for Junebug and James. I’ve been in a decent groove when it comes to patterns designs, Etsy orders, markets, and partnerships!

One of my huge goals for this past year was to be accepted into my first bigger brand partnership, and when I thought about which brands I would love to work with most - Hobbii Yarn was at the very top of the list!!

I’ve been using Hobbii yarn for a couple of years now and they have NEVER disappointed me. The quality of their yarn (specifically their Friends Cotton 8/8 and 8/4) is absolutely amazing. They have a HUGE colorway selection and their cotton yarn is so soft but sturdy enough to meet your cotton yarn needs.

I’ve used it for towels, dishcloths, and even amigurumi! I usually receive tons of compliments on my Amigurumi when I use Hobbii Friends Cotton to create them.

All of this to say, when I got an invitation to participate in one of Hobbii’s campaigns, the Hobbii Candyland DIY Challenge, I was FLOORED!

I started thinking of fun DIY ideas and pretty much immediately knew I wanted to make some sort of mini stocking that could be used for an advent calendar or “countdown the Christmas” type of project.

Growing up, my mom had the sweetest little calendar she would always put out during the Christmas season. It was a little hanging house made out of fabric and a little fabric mouse that you could move from pocket to pocket counting down the days to Christmas. My siblings and I would always take turns getting to move the mouse and it was really the sweetest little activity.

There’s just something about the excitement that comes with getting one day closer to Christmas! Creating those memories for my own kids now brings me so much joy, and to get to create something that YOU can make and bring into your own home is really something special.

That’s why I was SO excited for this Candyland DIY challenge! First of all, the color inspo was just perfect. I love a good Candyland theme, and it’s just the perfect match with all things Christmas. Secondly, who doesn’t love a good DIY Christmas project?!

This is why I designed the Mini Candyland Stocking to be whatever you want it to be. It’s a FAST make (just about 10 mins) and the perfect itty bitty size! I used Hobbii Friends Rainbow Cotton 8/4 for my stockings. It’s a fingering weight yarn, which makes the stocking light, dainty, and easy to hang. If you’ve never used fingering weight yarn, this would honestly be the best project to begin with!

Need some inspiration? Here are a few fun ways you can use your Mini Candyland Stocking:

  • Ornaments: hang it on your tree as a Christmas ornament!

  • Package Freebie: stick your business card inside and attach it to your packages as a fun freebie!

  • Gift Decor: attach it to any gift for some cute decoration!

  • Countdown to Christmas: make 10 (or however many you want) mini stockings to hang on a small Christmas tree. Fill each one with a small piece of candy and use it as a “countdown to Christmas” activity! You can take out one piece of candy a day!

  • Advent Calendar: Hang your stockings on a festive strand of ribbon or lights and either fill each one with candy or find a small object that can be moved from each stocking as an advent calendar!

  • Doll Accessory: gifting a sweet doll to someone you know this year? Make her a mini stocking as an adorable accessory!

Get creative with your candyland stockings!

Ideas for embellishments:

Create some tassels to hang with your stockings!

Make some pom poms!

Embroider numbers or intials!

As you can see, there are SO many fun ways you can use this mini stocking! I had a lot of fun turning my stockings into a “countdown to Christmas” activity! I embroidered numbers on each stocking and plan to hang them somewhere fun for my kids to take a piece of candy out each day for the 12 days leading up to Christmas this year!

And, I’m gonna share the FREE pattern with you right in this post! I don’t include how I embroidered the stockings because, to be honest, my embroidery skills are not the best. But, feel free to get creative with your stockings and decorate them however you’d like!

I would LOVE to see what you create with your stocking! Feel free to tag me in your creations on Instagram (@junebugandjames) or Facebook so I can see and share the love!

Finally, thank you so much to Hobbii Yarn for creating this super fun challenge and sponsoring me as I create a fun DIY project for you!

Happy creating!

Finishing:

Create a little twisted hanging loop to add that extra flair to your cute mini stocking!

Twisted Hanging Loop Instructions:

Join yarn to your stocking on the inside ankle at rnd 15 (photo 1). Pull the yarn on your hook to create a loop about 6“ (15 cm) long (photo 2) (if using a different weight yarn, you may need to make your loop longer). With the yarn on your hook, twist the loop of yarn about 30-40 times. Sl st in any loop next to where you first joined (you won’t see this part since it’s on the inside of the stocking - you just want to make it secure). Use your fingers to smooth and even out your twisted yarn. Insert your hook into the end of your twisted loop, yarn over (photo 3) and pull through both loops on your hook (the remaining loop and the end of your twisted loop). Sl stitch into next st on rnd 15 to secure.

Fasten off and weave in ends (photo 4)!
